Featured Program

Freedom Schools Program
More than 150 Tulsa children participated in the Children’s Defense Fund “Freedom Schools” Program this summer at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa. The program, a literacy-rich, five-week program, ran from June 19 through July 21.

The Freedom Schools program features a model curriculum for reading enrichment, youth leadership development, parent empowerment, civic engagement and social action. The program’s mission is to boost children’s motivation to read and generate positive attitudes toward learning, while connecting the needs of children and families to the resources of the community.The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with OSU-Tulsa, Langston University and Tulsa Public Schools, worked with the Freedom Schools. Students attended classes at OSU-Tulsa and Greeley Elementary School.
