Transcultural New Jersey
Transcultural New Jersey: Diverse Artists Shaping Culture and Communities is an collaborative statewide initiative headed jointly by the Rutgers University's Office of the Associate Vice President in the Arts and Humanities and the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in partnership with New Jersey Network Public Television and Radio. With funding from major private and public sources, this innovative program runs over two years, involving exhibitions across the state, multiple community and civic organizations, the development of K-12 teaching materials, and the publication of a catalog.

This project documents the creative achievements of underrepresented non-European artists in order to recognize and examine how they are shaping culture and communities in New Jersey. This program is being developed through a collaborative process that includes a planning colloquium and annual planning sessions with curators, scholars, consultants, faculty, university and museum staff to explore and document the creative achievements in the visual arts of Asian, Latino, African American, and Native American artists in New Jersey.
