Creative Campus Initiative
Creative Campus Initiative is a collaborative system connecting students, faculty, and community to nurture innovative thinkers who turn ideas into action. For one of its projects during the 2007-08 academic year, Creative Campus partnered with the Culverhouse College of Commerce & Business Administration to offer a Letter of Recognition in the Cultural Arts (LORCA). This pilot program was intended to broaden business graduate students' awareness and exposure to the cultural arts and the importance of the role they play in economic development and in personal enrichment. LORCA encourages students to develop a greater understanding of the arts through a required number of scheduled events; creates incentives for participation through presence of the letter of recognition program on the resumes of those who complete the program; and helps students grasp the synergy of intellectual creativity, functional talent, and pragmatic business processes that result in concrete artistic output through discussion of cultural arts events at planned social gatherings and via online forums such as Facebook and a blog.
